Born in Joinville, Santa Catarina in 1941, Juarez Machado is one of Brazil's most renowned contemporary artists, painter, sculptor, draftsman, set designer and performer — with a career spanning his home country and, since the 1980s, France.

His work is known for its strong sense of humour, sensuality and theatricality, blending precise drawing with vibrant colour to portray elegant figures, dancers, musicians and intimate scenes.

Born Patrick Maderos Kennedy Dito (1929–2005), the Chilean-born artist trained as a mining engineer before travelling the Amazon and Bolivia, where the flora and fauna of the jungle shaped his eye.

Settling in Bahia in the 1960s, he became one of Brazil's foremost tapestry artists, with collections such as Fauna e Flora da Bahia (1973) gaining international recognition.

Raphael Sagarra, known as Finok (b. 1985, São Paulo), began as a graffiti artist and is now internationally exhibited, working across painting, sculpture and installation.

His work blends Brazilian popular culture, urban subcultures and religious symbolism, exploring identity and social values with figurative imagery and geometric pattern.

Heitor dos Prazeres (1898–1966) was a painter, composer and samba musician from Rio de Janeiro, recognised as a key figure in Brazilian modernism and a pioneer in visually documenting samba culture.

His paintings depict street scenes, musicians and religious festivities; his work is held in the collections of MoMA, the Centre Pompidou and MAM São Paulo.

Born 1943 in Minas Gerais, Hélio Petrus is a sculptor and woodcarver celebrated for neo-baroque reinterpretations of Brazilian sacred art — angels, saints and Madonnas carved in cedar and finished with delicate polychrome.

His work has included a sculpture given as a gift to Pope Francis, and he continues to mentor young artisans in his studio.

Antonio Maia (1928–2008) was a painter and draftsman whose work bridges Brazilian popular religiosity, folk tradition and modernist abstraction, drawing on ex-voto imagery and Northeastern folk motifs.

He exhibited at the Bienal de São Paulo in 1965 and 1967, and his work entered international collections including the Museum of Ontario.

A São Paulo-born visual artist trained in Architecture and largely self-taught in painting, Victor Henrique Fidelis works primarily in acrylic on canvas.

His art addresses the experiences of Black Brazilians and the representation of racialised bodies, exhibiting at SP-Arte and with galleries including Verve Galeria.

Fernando Clóvis Pereira (1917–2005) helped bridge European modernist technique and Brazilian regional identity, studying in Paris under André Lhote and Gino Severini before returning to Brazil.

He exhibited at the 1st Bienal de São Paulo (1951) and was honoured with a special room at MAM-Rio in 1983.

Born 1981 in Bahia and raised in São Paulo's North Zone, Sérgio Free grew up immersed in the city's underground graffiti (pixação) culture before moving into studio-based painting.

His work — including his iconic clown, a critique of capitalism — has shown across Europe and the US, following solo exhibitions such as "Veredas" (São Paulo, 2022).
